Sometimes I lay a marker to let others know I intend to snipe. image

  • I enjoy bidding. So sometimes I put a bid on a coin early. I don't expect to win, but if I do great.
  • I snipe 99% of the time.

  • If I know I'll be around for the end of the auction .. As I'm usually bidding against some of the same people I don't want to get into a pattern. As some of them like to try and snipe .. Let the higher sniper win ..

I don't worry about maybe paying a little more then todays prices on certain coins as I believe in 10 years or so, if I decide to sell then, Some of the perverbiale high price I paid today will look cheap then .. In 10 years your going to have some of the same people who look back now and say's "If I only knew" or "I should have" say the same things ... Too many of the bidders are fixated in what a coin is worth today .. Which is good .. I know there isn't any guarentees on a coins future price .. but on some coins I'll take the chance ..

It depends on what the item is.

If I can, yes, mostly to keep the price down.

Sometimes, if I expect lots of bidding, I will post proxies.

99% of the time. Unless I see that you bid on it first Andy image (I just know that you love people going to school on your bids image )

The snipe, the WHOLE snipe and nothing but the snipe!!

  • I do my homework. I only bid on what I really want to win. I may mark an item with a low bid. Then on the last day I will bid and it will be high. If you snipe something I want, you had better come with the money! Dont be a piker. You will be very sad. Having said that, I dont bid over my max. If someone is nutty enough to overbid me, then I am happy for them! image

If I intend to win, I snipe.

If I'm just playing around, I might place a low-ball bid in for fun. Or to BIN-stomp. Or if I'm sure it's not going to hit the reserve. But if I'm playing for keeps -- I snipe.
  • If the auction closes after 12:00am midnight (I am in the eastern time zone) then I place a bid and go to bed and hope for the best. I win some, I lose some but will not stay up just to snipe.

  • Rarely. There are too many other things to do in life besides sitting in front of a computer waiting for time to go by. I'll either make a low bid if I'm only interested or a solid bid within 24 hours of auction close. Snipers can expect to be disapointed if I'm seriously interested in an item.

Snipe = improved chances of winning at a lower price that bidding high early-on and risking an under bidder, bidding the item up.

I snipe over 95% of the time. Partly because I don't have the time for active bidding and mostly because I believe I win auctions for a lower price than an active auction. I place my snipe bid for the maximum I am willing to pay - if someone outbids me by $1, so be it.

Ebay is very unlikely to enter into the sniping business - if I am sniping coins for less than what would be realized in a spirited auction, then ebay is losing revenue. IMO, if ebay offered sniping for free, then everyone would snipe and the auctions would all be bid in the last 15 seconds.
