Hi Gerry Fortin here,
I've joined the US Coin Forum to announce that the Liberty Seated Dime Varieties web-book will be shortly available at www.seateddimevarieties.com. The book is the result of 20 or so years of researching Seated Dime die varieties and building a rather significant reference collection in the process. The web-book will be on a subscription basis and I will be finalizing my pricing by the ANA convention in Pittsburgh. The web-book should be up and running by August 16. This is what my web site guy is telling me. I've used embedded links extensively, so the web-book will read like a book, but you can move around from page to page or date to date very quickly. Also, there are great indexes for those specialists who only what to collect MPD or RPDs.
The main goal of the book is to give the numismatic community a reference source similar to Sheldon's Large Cents and Overton's Bust Halves, spawning new collector interest in the Seated Dime series. Seated Dimes are generally available, so it is possible to build nice variety sets in middle to upper circulated grades.
Here is a description of some of the content at www.seateddimevarieties.com
o Detailed obverse and reverse die variety analysis for each date and mintmark in the Liberty Seated dime series
o Listing of over 1200 individual business strike and proof varieties with full obverse and reverse photographs, detailed macro images and commentary on significant diagnostic points for the identificatio of each variety.
o Over 7000 photographs to simplify variety attributions
o Cross referencing to Kam Ahwash and Brian Greer listing
o Initial rarity estimates in grades from Very Fine to Mint State for each variety
o Suggested pricing premiums for major varieties vs. Coin World's CoinValues
o Revised Greer rarity estimates for each date by grade
o Interactive indexes for known misplaced dates, repunched dates, doubled dies and rotated dies
o Interactive indexes for proof dies
o Definition of the Major 100 Seated Dime Varieties
o Definition of the Major 200 Seated Dime Dates and Varieties
o Discussion forum for building a Seated Dime variety collecting community and aiding with variety attributions
For those of you familiar with PCGS and NGC Registry, my better dimes are listed as the #1 PCGS and #2 NGC Registry sets.

Hey, no teasing - please post again when the site is up for real
Also, PLEASE consider a hardbound version. Yes, it would cost a fortune but I think any serious collector of serious dimes would be willing to pay for it.
Yes, the website will auto generation passwords after a Paypal payment!
Thanks for the question
Gerry
Ok, getting use to the forum. Sorry about the wrong name on my first reply. I don't do forums very often. My head is usually looking into a stereo microscope or a 10x loupe and studying a dime. It has become an addiction......
Gerry
Welcome. I concur with Coinosaurus - no teasing us!
BTW, glad that you went with an online/digital version as opposed to what O'Donnell and some others wanted (hardcopy).

How does one get a hater to stop hating?
I can be reached at evillageprowler@gmail.com
Yes, many people said a hardbound book was the only way to go. But frankly, we are in the digital age and 1200+ dimes/7000+ photographs does not fit well into a hardbound book. I've always felt that the best variety books were the ones with lots of pictures to help with attributions.
As far as the teasing gentlemen, I'm just trying to get the word out in all the forums that I can think of. I believe the time for a web-book has arrived. Now my website guy needs to finish the formats by this friday so I can take a version to ANA with me. Anyone who knows me will remember the seated dime guy with the computer bag walking around bourse floors.

You can also sell a CD-ROM of your website. Those who wish a hard copy can print it out themselves. I would actually prefer a CD-ROM. That would be very easy for you to provide and on an as needed basis. You never know when the internet is down or for those that are stuck with a dail-up service, they may never get to see the pictures. You can burn CDs yourself or can have them made pretty cheap. If you need help on researching this out, let me know. I would be glad to help.

<< <i>gimme the hardbound book. it's not easy lugging a 17" monitor around the bourse floor. K S >>
Every hear of a notebook with 802.11g?
Tom
Much of the research has been done with a laptop on bourse floors. Booting a PC is a bit slow, but the access to pictures is unsurpassed for attributing varieties on the spot. I would not lug around a hardbound book with 7000+ pics.
The idea for a CDROM version is excellent. I've been there on the idea and if enough demand emerges, then I will do it.
Thanks for the feedback so far, now where is my website guy, so I can fire up the website to the public. August 16 is approaching......

Dismeguy, congratulations on your accomplishment. PLEASE be sure to post again when the book is ready. I will be waiting in line. Thanks, Dennis

I concur that CDROM or DVD, if necessary with all the photos, is the way to go. I have an Ebook on digital photography and it's a great medium for it, with all the photos on that, too.
Karl, I know you don't like computers because they're encased in plastic
not a criticism, i admire anyone w/ the tenacity & persistence to catalog 7000 digi-pics.
