Ebay coins- undergraded

Does everyone notice that every coin thats on ebay is undergraded. Seems like if you see a coin in a pcgs or any other holder the guy selling always thinks its under graded.

  • That is a rule and eBay is very strict about it: All coins must be represented as undergradedimage
  • Thats a polite way of saying most of them are full of s**t!!image

It's only undergraded if they are selling, it's always overgraded if they are buying!!!image

  • Yes that is true and it also applies to anyone on these boards who has a coin in a PCGS holder. They are always undergraded as well! So live with it! image

  • As a Power seller on Ebay I can tell you it's in the rule book image

I just auctioned off several older holder common date morgans and I truly believe a few were undergraded (by today's standards). I realized how cheezy it sounded so I only wrote that on one of the auctions where the coin was really nice. It was a 63 that I think Could have EASILY made 65. The way I see it, hyping everything as undergraded or pq is detramental to the hobby, but if you feel a coin really is undergraded, go ahead and say so.

Every brilliant is a near cameo, every cameo a near deep cameo, and they're all PQ++.

  • What is really funny is that I was looking at some PCI morgans on ebay a couple of weeks ago and they were all listed as undergraded!

It's the same on here and I've never heard a seller say the coin is really over graded.

Orie, I've seen coins on ebay overgraded, called PQ, and even undergraded. Some guys say it like it is if the coin is a dog. I sold a coin to a forum member dealer here that was a pop 1 NGC MS67 19th century type coin. But I felt it was a 66+ with great color. I told him as much and he paid knowing the coin was going to be low end or a misgrade. He was happy with it as is and that was that.

Not every coin on ebay is overgraded. There are legit undergrades all the time.
