"A little expensive" is an understatement. PCI will slab anything as Deep Cameo nowadays, and a regular 1958 proof cent is worth about $5. Someone's not gonna be happy...
If the pictured coin is a 1958 68 deep cameo, the raw 1958 cent I picked up this weeked (discussed in my post of earlier today) is a 70 deep cameo ++++++++++++++++++. The pictured coin was probably photographed under conditions that make it look better than it really is (like fashion magazines). Notwithstanding same, the coin still does not even come close to cameo. A large majority of Lincoln's portrait exhibits no frost at all. I expect that if the pictured coin and a PCGS 68 deep cameo cent (if one even exists) were viewed in hand at the same time, even Mr. Magoo could easily tell the difference.
99%+ of the time the PCI grade is a joke but one day I did get a 1957 Lincoln in PCI 69DCAM for about $125. It turned into a PCGS 68 Cameo (at the time pop 5/0) - cha-ching!
I bet the private auction is just a cover for a shill
These guys continue to rip people off, they get inferior grading companies to grade and then PCGS price guides to hype their crap. I've sent them e-mails saying such but I think they're laughing all the way to the bank. How the h**ll do they get that feedback rating??? They're a disgrace but e-bay won't touch them because of the fees they make. I've even sent PCGS an e-mail suggesting they start clamping down on people using their price guide, no response.
