Cherry Pick Of Weekend

Took a family trip out of town this weekend to relax and get away from the daily grind. Stopped by a local coin shop to check out its inventory. While looking through a box full of older proof sets, I found a 1958 set in a clear hard plastic, non Capital, holder. Had to buy it and did.

All 5 coins are beautiful, however the Lincoln cent was the reason for the purchase. It is bright fiery orange. The color is even and uniform over the entire obverse and reverse. No haze. No hairlines. No contact marks. Fully struck. The only blemish is a single needle point sized carbon spot one the reverse located halfway between the bottom of the A in America and the lower tip of the left wheat stalk (can't have everything I guess). The kicker............ the cent is a cameo with full even frost on the devices. I have looked for a 1958 cameo cent for years and finally found one. I can't believe my luck. Replacing the cent with a non cameo example and selling the 1958 proof set will give me a low cost for the cameo cent.

My new addition now resides with its brothers in a capital plastic type holder containing 28 slots for 1950-1975 lincoln cent proofs (including the 1960 and the 1970 small and large date varieties).
