OUCH

Here's why you should triple check your auction titles to make sure everything's perfect:

Because you can get boned over

...and over...

...and over...

...and OVER!

That last one really hurt. The Hiller's a midpop high # that usually sells for above the base high # price.

I'm thrilled (of course) with my purchases, but I really feel for this guy. The lack of the word "Topps" in the auction title cost him a bundle (though a ton of other auctions from '61 that were up tonight didn't help either). And he ended them all at the same time, too.

The irony is, I found the auctions by accident when I was checking the high numbers individually, to see what was available raw there. If I hadn't stumbled across them, the carnage would have been even worse.

Live and learn, I guess.

Your point is well taken about making sure the title is right. Last week I was able to buy a 1974 Topps Deckle Edge Johnny Bench (along with Boomer Scott and Willie Davis) for around $66 because the seller spelled it "Deckled" in the title. Unless you searched Deckle(asterisk) or 1974 Bench with no other keywords, you wouldn't see it. (I sure didn't. A board member was kind enough to point me to it) There was just a little bidding, nothing like there should have been, and I am sure it is because of "Deckled." The seller claims they are NM; I have fantasies they might even grade 8, since there are no corner points to ding. It's hard to tell with deckle in a scan. We'll see. If I'm hoodwinked, at least it's only $66 ... thanks to the bad spelling!

I couldn't remember who tipped me! You sure do, if seller is not fibbing about the condition and the Bench gets a decent grade. Or scamming me altogether; remember the feedback we were concerned about? Hmmm what should the fee be?
