irfanview coin pic editing

other than airplanenut, anyone here use irfanview for coin photography editing? any tips? I'm still wondering if the following technique might work better for me and whether it's possible. I want to shoot a coin from higher above the coin in order to increase the angle of the light lamps. Should I:
1.maximize the initial shot's resolution.
2.crop and resize

by using irfanview, will I be able to reduce the file size to less than 100kb, and what technique in using the software do I pursue?

I use it. Just resize the image to reduce the bytes. Or copy a section and paste it into a new file. It's really poor for professional use in selling coins though. Try PhotoShop!

All my pics posted here recently are edited using Irfanview, best little program out there. I scan them at 4800 dpi then resize and crop as needed.
