Well, I finally finished my 1st registry set.

After reading a message thread on collecting mint sets.(where Cosmicdebris was #1 for quite a while, but someone topped him). Got me to looking at them. I decided to do one for my Wifes birth year, since I already had 5 of the 10 coin.

I have since completed it and updated 2 coins and I have a pretty Wash. in at PCGS, I hope will make a 66. Take a look at my 1964 Mint Set and hopefully I can get some more/better pics up in time. This took me since the end of June to complete. I need a Barber half for my type set and trying to find one that hasn't been cleaned with eye appeal for a decent price is tough image

Here's to Bill for his idea about the mint sets and motivating me to start/finish a set I really enjoyed putting together! image

I'm always interested in hearing why people start registry sets.

    Nice set indeed.

Just a question? Do you like having an ms64FS nickel in the set of all otherwise ms66's? Or would you prefer to have ms66 nickels too? Do you think the mint sets should not put a bonus for designations like FS and FB?

  • Nice job! I had to go and try to finish a 140 coin set. Doubt if I'll ever finish, but if I do we'll have a party!

Nice job Kenneth! I did the same for my better half and she is a couple years "more image mature" than yours! You can see her set and coins at Monica's Birth Year Set. Good luck on your type set. Dave
  • That is a very nice set.
    Way to go.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Russ: You don't miss much. And yes, I do like to think positive image I just hope Mitch and Craig don't start one, cause with their beautiful coins ( I'm not saying this out loud, I'm thinking Washingtons image ) it would be like competing against High Desert image

haletj: To answer your question, yes I like the jeffs in FS if the over all strike is superior to a regular business strike. I already had the 64FS I bought in an Ebay auction on 10/22/03 for $46.00 compaired to a recent auction of a 66nFS i was watching went for around $200 This coin will be upgraded eventually to make the set look more uniformed image As far as the bonus for the desig. RD, FS, FB, in my opinion are up to the collector if they want it or not. Your not Penalized for not having it, yet awarded a bonus if you do. I think it should stay the way it is, JMO image

Dave: Your wife must be proud of the #1 1962 mint set 2 years in a row image I love it!
