1883 G$1 NGC MS69

Just wondering if a title change will increase the 12 replies so far...

This is actually a post about a COIN

But if I put 1883 G$1 NGC MS69 in the title, no one would look

So as long as you're here, expose your eyes to this puppy.
Even though the picture looks more like an artists' rendering of the coin, it's probably pretty nice in person.

1883 G$1 NGC MS69

On the cusp of perfection, a glittering, satiny jewel that would be hard to find more attractive, bathed as it is in lovely sunset orange and greenish gold iridescence. Both sides will knock your socks off with their beauty, their phenomenal appearance. To say this is boldly struck would be an understatement. While a number of these little gems were set aside by collectors and hoarders in the 1880s, well preserved gems at this level are almost unavailable! (Housed in NGC holder 1719633-024.)

  • What is a picture of a coin doing on the peoples court message board?? That was a good trick, I sure wish this board had a view counter so we could see how many people looked at it compared to other threads that had real coin info in the title.
  • Well as Russ would say.

Is this the same Gold Dollar that was cracked from a 66 holder several years ago by a dealer and regraded as a 69?? I heard this story about a Gold Dollar somewhere but am not positive about the details or the date.

Whose is it? Is it unusual for a gold $1 to be struck as noticeably off center? I've never seen one off by as much, but then you can count how many I've seen in dozens, not hundreds or thousands. Or, is that the holder blocking the rim on one side? Anyway, beautiful & out of reach...

I think the latter is more likely than the former on this one.

I wonder if it will get more than 12 replies with a new title?

    cool looking coin

with great original color due to an improper alloy mixture which is sometimes seen on business strike gold dollars 1879 to 1889

usual die rust/pitting on the cheek/face and hair of miss liberty sometimes/mostly seen on gold dollar business strikes of 1879 to 1883 along with missing ert of liberty again seen mostly on business strike gold dollars 1879 to 1883

Perhaps it is just me, but that is a 69? The coin must look magnificent in person because from the photos it does not look one point from perfection.

Wow! That's a beauty. That coin has personality - Longacre doubling of the legend, mottled color because (as Michael pointed out) an improper alloy mix, the O in DOLLAR a little higher than the rest of the word. Something about coins like that really appeal to me.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

One can't help but wonder how it was stored all these years. A truly superb strike. WOW!

One of my favorite obverse designs. They should have put it on something bigger image.

And yes, I'd love to see it in person because I'm sure the picture doesn't do it justice.
