It's so hard to keep up with the Canadians!!!

My sons & I are strictly "circulation" collectors when it comes to US, Canadian & Darkside coins, (never got the bug or the resources to go into all the NCLT's!) , but the Canadian Mint throws so many surprises at us that I never know what's out there in general circulation to keep up with and what's not! image

I see 2 new "circulating" designs (or so I think) this year: the "lucky loon" and the 400th Anniversary St Croix Island 25 cent piece. Any others? Are there REGULAR - design dollar and 25-cent coin designs for '04 in circulation as well, or just the special designs?

Anyone interested in being a "trading partner" - - nice, recent-date circulating Canadian coins for similar our U.S. (and/or extra Darkside & Euros)?

We don't have ANY '04 Canadian coins yet, and are missing some odds-n-ends from '03 and before as well. Any trade help would be welcomed/appreciated!

Here's the full list of our "needs" (if anyone can update me re: if anything listed below was not actually available in general circulation, I'd appreciate the info as well!):

Twoonie's: 2004 (need 3)

Loonies: 2004 "lucky" (4); 2004 "regular?" (3); 2003 "younger effigy?" (3); 2001 (2); 200 (2); 1999 (1); 1997 "regular" (1)

50-cent: 2004 (3); 2003 (both effigies - - 3 each)

25-cent: 2004 (400th Anniv -- 4)

10-cent: 2004 (3)

5-cent: 2004 (2)

1-cent: 2004 (2)

Thanks for any help!!

Dave, I'll check my change to see if I have any 2004 Canadian coins. I believe I received some in Canada last week.

    I have (2) 2004 1c coins
    (1) 2004 5c coin
and a 2003 25c coin. If you want them they are yours.

Dave, I'm visiting Canada next month and I can try to find what you're looking for. I'll print out your list and then check with you via PM when I'm up
there to see what you still need, if you'd like me to. Just let me know! image

Btw, I agree with you. The RCM puts out so many new coins each year, I can't keep up with them either.

  • Hey, I live here, and I often have no clue what' around and what isn't. Have yet to see 50c-$2 (regular) for this year, but we'll see. I'll PM you later tonight when I get a chance to comb through my change.

BTW, If you don't already know there '04 and '04P 1c.

Thanks, everyone for the info, updates, & offers!! I appreciate it & will be contacting everyone ASAP.

Quick note to ccg: I thought the "P" designations on their coins were only supposed to be for a year or so until they completely switched over planchets - - what heppened? Why still both the "P" & "non-P" for the 1-cent coins this year? Is it just another marketing ploy? What about the other denominations? Are they both "P" & "non-P" as well this year?

    Thanks!
