Do you think we can convince HRH now?

With the ongoing eBay threads that are getting really old, maybe he would reconsider having a seperate ebay forum....

it's pretty simple not to read them.

I miss most of these especially when they get so many responses that they just
seem to levitate, but I've seen a couple of interesting ones.

They run in cycles. After a few weeks, there won't be as many. Then they'll all come up again. I've seen it more times than I can count here.

Maybe if people gave a clue in the thread title what the thread was about we could pick and choose the subjects we liked? So many posters give threads titles that give no clue of it's contents that I think many don't get the responses from the people that would have an interest in them. The people posting the EBAY stuff should include EBAY in the title just like is required on the BST forum. If you start a thread about a certain coin series include the name of the series in the title as well. And don't forget OT (off topic) does not belong on the US coin forum even if you include the letters OT it still is against forum rules. mike image

No it isn't. It's impossible not to open them. They are like stink and the mouse button is a fly.

My biggest problem with them, is that it takes up space that could be used for actual Numismatic discussion, rather than EBay discussion (Which if you think about it could be considered OT since most tend to only mildly be about coins, and the discussion certainly isn't about the coins themselves, but usually about the seller and their "sleazy" practices...)

I think for the most part coin selling / buying / collecting is too involved with eBay to not discuss them together.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I also agree...actually, I was a big advocate of seperating the u.s forum into different sub-headings. Now I'm not so sure. I visited other boards and I thik that might be one of the things limiting the replies there. It is just really seperated. I get sick of the ebay stuff too...however, when I put up my first coins for sale last week, I was really thankfull people took the time to help me out with the questions I had. I did use descriptive titles though. That is something I wish more people would do as well. We might all be guilty of it now and then though! image

I would vote for an ebay forum.

Yes, that would help! Then a lot more people would have known what this thread was about!

I think that we should have a separate forum for threads bitching about eBay threads. They're getting pretty oldimage

Yeah, those threads really take up a lot of pixels.

I'm just wonder what intrinsic numismatic value this thread has ??

This is "US Coin Forum" Ebay, Fraud, Scams are a part of it. These and many more discussions are part of making one's numismatic experience a good one. I've had many newbies ask me question on different things and I always steer them to this forum because by in large, and I hate to admit it, there are foum members that know way more then I gunga din.

I find it very easy now to seperate the wheat from the shaft. Yes there are many very amusing threads but that's what probably keeps members checking back here often.

I am awful glad that there are separate forums here for US Coins, Registry Sets, Q and A, World and Ancients, Metal Detecting, Coin Swaps, Buy, Sell and Trade Coins, World and US Currency, Buy, Sell and Trade Currency, Open Forum and Testing Forum. Separating can be good.

But, I also think an Ebay Forum is un-needed and would probably be mostly unused.

I think they are very relevant to numismatics. Especially considering most of them point out exactly the issues/red flags that newbies should be looking for, such as:

    1) No or very little feedback,

    2) No return policy,

    3) Estate Sale claimed anywhere in the title or text,

    4) Bidders IDs kept private,

    5) Accepts only Money Orders of Certified Bank Checks,

    6) Only provides a Post Office Box number,

    7) Charges a massive shipping/handling fee

    8) Fuzzy or non existant pictures of the item,

    9) Stock pictures of the item,

    10) "As IS", "All Sales Final" in the text of the description,

    11) ------etc-------,------etc--------,------etc---------
