I'm a real estate appraiser and I did a guys house today that used to own a card shop. Well we get to his basement and I am like holy cow (not the exact words but close enough) So I says to the guy instead of paying for this in cash lets do some bartering! I thought he would tell me forget it, but look at what I got. 13 1983 Topps baseball vending boxes, (a little rough but I checked and there are at least 20 Nolan Ryans in the middle of one, 2 1989 Football Topps Traded boxes, 2 Pro Set Series boxes, a 1979 Football Cello pack in good shape, a 1990 Topps Football factory set and a Deion Sanders rookie, (I don't like deion but it's a 8-9 shape) and to top it off he still paid me almost half my fee in cash. All in all not a bad day at work!

REM - Good Deal! Cards have a value so its great to trade other items or a service for them. When I had a shop I used to do it all the time. A guy blacktopped my parking lot for cards, a customer would shovel snow off my roof for store credit, I even gave a Pizza delivery guy a Clemens rookie for a delivered pizza, it was his idea and I had no problem w/ it. I just wish the electric company, the insurance company and such would have done it too! ...jay

I still fantasize about helping out an elderly person with something and having him/her go up in the attic to give me a box of old cards. Nowadays, it would most likely be an 88 Donruss box.

You were right it wasn't 20, I'm sorry it was 18 of each of his cards. Yeah, I was a little shocked too. All came out of one box. I have yet to look at the others. If your interested I will let you know what else I find. But I have attached a couple of pictures.

Yeah, I think so because the second box is all Reds. You know I am not much into baseball but I couldn't pass on the Ryans. If it had been 72 topps I would still be on the floor of this guys basement dead of a heart attack. I am looking through the second box now for Bench & Rose. By the way this guy knows a woman who used to own a card shop and he called her while I was there and she has some 71 & 72 Football, he is going to get some stuff from her and let me look. So if I find some good stuff maybe I can actually help you out for a change. I will let you know what I find out.

Ah, team vending boxes...that explains that! Did you get a Padres or Red Sox box (Gwynn/Boggs)? That would be a sweet find! Also, let me know what 71 / 72 football you find (after Carlos, of course)...

No I got 2 Astros boxes with 36 Ryans, 2 Reds boxes that yielded 14 Benchs, 1 Rose All Star, 1 Angels box with 19 Reggie Jacksons and the rest were Twins, Rangers, Tigers and Cubs but not 1 Sandburg? That didn't make sense to me but I'm not going to complain it was fun digging through a ton of cards for a change instead of hunting 6 & 7 specific cards. I am waiting for the guy to call me I will let you guys know what I find out.
