What is more significant is the dropping Dow.

And even more troublesome, and I WILL continue to be an optimist, is the state of our Nation.

What's the matter with the state of our Nation? Oh, you must be referring to the continual slide into socialism championed by the left wing Democrats.

The dollar tanked today so gold is mostly just reflecting that.

It will be much more impressive and meaningful if gold can go up while the doillar is strong.

Gold spiked $8 to just under $400 at the open and stayed there all day! The news of record high oil prices may have helped drive down the dollar.

That's the connection all the news organizations are making. I don't see why. The gold market is much more international than that. I bet some BIG money placed a bet on renewed worldwide inflation because of the advance in the price of oil.

And gold may be worth the same number of yen or euros as it was yesterday, but *relative to the dollar*, the price of gold rose.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

It was probably lower oil prices which sent the dollar lower today. What is causing this I've
not figured out yet, but they has been a high negative correlation in the direction of these prices
for some time now. Oil is wagging gold right now and using the dollar to do it, or so it would
    appear.

What really matters is that the anti-gold group has not been successful in bashing gold down to the $350-380 level as they had been hoping. The damn PM has sprung back to $400 again! Gold will flourish again once this current bear market rally in the US Dollar is finally over. Once that occurs, the dollar is headed to new lows and gold to new highs. It's just a matter of time, weeks or months, but it's coming. Show me a positive economic factor other than unemployment dropping 0.1% this month....and please don't include the price of houses going up 20%/yr as POSITIVE.
