Since the Nolan Ryan Thread has worked so well, even other player collectors are checking in there these days... I thought you guys might like a general player thread where you post card pictures and other stuff about the players you collect! This way, we can all enjoy talking about the players we collect.
I'll start it off with a card of a great former Red Sox player that has been nearly forgotten today... Smoky Joe Wood. He was once said to be better than Walter Johnson before he suffered a dead arm... he made a nice comeback as an outfielder with the Indians thanks to his good friend (and Imndians manager) Tris Speaker.

<< <i>I have a tight, well cenetered 1980 OPC Murray going to PSA in 2 weeks - should grade 9 or better (a la BCCG). Keep you eyes peeled, or PM me if you want it.

nice, if I wasnt so crunched for cash Id be buying more raw stuff like in the past. Ive got about 30,000 Murrays waiting to be sifted through for grading.
let me know when you get it back. Always interested in graded Eddie Murray and Will Clark stuff. Some early Darin Erstad too... mainly just 10s for his rookies.

1998 Score R/T 1/1 Masterpieces?
Ditto for 1998 Ultra Masterpieces. Showed these to the nice men at the Fleer booth at the Nationals. Other than being profusely apolagetic, they weren't of much help. Not that I expected any help, I just wanted to see their reactions. Priceless.
I haven't picked up anything from David in some time, I keep promising myself sometime soon but something else always seems to come up.
The corners on the Fergie are a little soft compared with a few other '66s I have but I could go home without it.
Luis Tiant from the same dealer...

Obviously, he must have been "straight" in the right places! What's the old wives' tale? If you wanna know the "measure" of a man, you just have to look at his ears?
<< <i>What day was that? I saw him on Friday and don't remember the '64 set, he might have sold it. Considering the asking price of the 1960 set that marty picked up I would have to assume that $6,500 for a nice looking '64 set would've been a decent asking price. I could have just missed it completely, but I think a '64 would've caught my eye... >>
I saw the '64 set first thing Thursday morning. I did not go to the show on Friday cause I had to get back home Thursday night, so I was never able to go back and drool over the set again (pile of drool might have lowered the price to the point where I could have afforded it).

Anyway, these aren't in the best of shape but they are something different.
Autographed 1949-50 Toleteros Puerto Rican cards.
By the way, I have some Canadian Hostess cards that are similar to that Henderson, I'll try to dig one or two out.
Now collecting:
Topps Heritage
1957 Topps BB Ex+-NM
All Yaz Items 7+
Various Red Sox
Did I leave anything out?
your friend, lee
and of course, no Dr. K collection would be complete without a copy of his rap album:
Nice Goodens! Believe it or not, your not the only Gooden collector around, I am also in that club. While my main collections are Gary Carter, Reggie Jackson, Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett I also have ungraded collections of Gooden, Strawberry, Ron Gant, J.R. Richard, Willie McGee and a few others.
If you have a wantlist or trade list please let me know, I'd love to fill some holes in my collection and maybe I could help you with something.
Abe
BTW, welcome to the boards!
<< <i>As most likely the only Dwight Gooden collector, I'll show off some of his earliest cards- a pair of 1983 Brace Minor League postcards: >>
i cant see your pics! all i see is the fortunecity.com logo.. this is the only decent Doc Gooden card i have.. i used to have the unsigned version #016/100 (his jersey#) but i ebayed it..
right now, im only looking for a 1985 mets colla postcard of the doctor and ticket stubs from some of his more significant games. ive been focusing on cards and memorabilia from his rookie and pre-rookie years (83-85) and this is the last item i need. ive got a website up if interested: Dr. K Collection
i have picked up a few strawberry items you might need along the way. send me your address and ill send out a package for you.
jamie
Thanks, that's very kind of you. Your site is great. Some very nice stuff on there, I love the minor league stuff. The 85 Colla is one I'm also looking for, if I turn one up I'll definitely let you know.
Thanks again!

Original photograph of Roy Campanella used in a Cuban newspaper in 1950.
The reverse has a copy of accompanying text to the photo when it was published.
Purchased from a Ryan Christoff auction last year.
I scanned it next to a 1986 Fleer Mini to give an idea of how small the Hostess cards are.
Well, I figured I should chime in with a contribution of my own:
I know PSA grades these I seen a few in holders, but I have never seen anyone have an uncut sheet. Except for myself.
Check it out all the Vintage HALL OF FAMERS on one sheet from 1939.
15 year player here...
1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends.
Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards
I have added them to the registry so they should show by tomorrow or day after.
