I bought a 1925-S MS64 BN Lincoln on eBay 5-6 years ago. The coin was raw and the auction did not give an image (I know, I know).

Well, the coin arrived and was indeed a 25-S Lincoln, but it was VF as opposed to MS64BN.

The seller wouldn't immediately return my emails (coin had a 7 day return policy) so I went ahead and sent the coin back. The seller later claimed he didn't recieve the coin. I requested a copy showing proof of receipt from the post office (it cost me $7 to do so) which did indeed show that the seller had received the coin via his signature.

After three months I received a refund check, but then the check bounced when I cashed it (another $20 expense).

Finally, after six months had passed and many threatening emails I received a money order refunding my original auction price (~$65), but I lost over $30 between the bounced check and postage.

    You live and learn.

I bought a supposed 1987/6 Morgan. When it came in, I couldn't see the overdate so I sent it to ANACS. Their opinion was the same as mine. The seller would never respond to e-mails. I am only out about $95.00, but I learned a lesson.

When I first started collecting I bought a coin with a lousy scan that turned out to be whizzed and mostly worthless. I ripped the seller a verbal A&& hole and he was so mad he told me he would not honor a return thanks to me rudeness, and I told him to go F*** himself and sent it back anyway.

I bought 40+ coins unsearched but all I got was common wheat pennies and a little bit of silver and a bent indian head. It was only twenty bucks. I would say what I got was worth 7 or 8 dollars.

An 1825 Bust Half that looked like a nice original toned piece in the auction image and turned out to be a headlight bright harshly cleaned POS.

  • An 1882P Morgan that was obviously whizzed and is now a pocket piece.

Before I found this place, I bit on one of those Chinese "Trade Dollars." I'm out about $130.00 bucks. The funny thing is, I'll never get rid of it; I keep it as a constant reminder to stay educated.

I roll of BU 64D Washingtons. Poor picture, turned out to be AU at best. I still have that roll as a reminder.

Around 7 years ago, I bought a 1940-S half that was graded MS65 ANACS over ebay. Turns out it was the old ANACS photograde pre-slab days. The coins was uncirculated and free from bagmarks, but was poorly struck. This year is notorious for weak, dished out strikes. PCGS only graded it MS63. I paid $80 for it so I didn't loose too much. Be careful with those old ana photo grades.

My worst ever Ebay purchase was for an 1889-S dollar in MS64DMPL which was purchased for $2400.00 from a forum member who no longer posts here (I think). He was a fairly high profile seller and I trusted his descpription via our emails, and after getting the coin it turned out to be a whizzed POS worth next to nothing. He said he was sorry but never offered me a refund.
  • I purchased a raw cent which looked to me to be a particular variety and was nothing. $20 down the tubes with no return. It was the coin pictured just my eyes playing tricks. It could have been worse.

I just got back into collecting after 10+ years away......one of my first ebay purchases.....$120 on what looked like an awsome Bust half, high end AU to slider BU....dark, but not too bad pics. In retrospect the term "estate" should have tipped me off. It was high end AU, but cleaned harshly. I carried her for about 6 months in my pocket and would leave her on the window ledge, and outside for weeks at a time to retone......I resold her for $85 as XF and got good feedback for it....so not to bad.

Talk about non coin deals.............I still cant sit for long due to the "f"'ing I got from a deal on laptops that turned sour........and preperation H doesnt even help that one.
Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.
