Ted Williams.com autographed items

Has anyone purchased or considered purchasing items from tedwilliams.com? It is the official web page of Ted Williams, but I had a few concerns besides the prices.

1. It has John Henry Williams' name all over the web page. I know from extensive research that Ted Williams has one of the most forged signatures in the hobby. In addition, his son has been linked to many disreputable activities regarding his father's autographs.
2. Ted suffered two severe strokes of which the last one rendered him pretty much blind. How could he possible see many of the items his son kept handing him?
3. Why isn't there more talk of the web site?

Thanks

Two reasons pop into my head:

    1) Everyone I've ever met who is a baseball fan despises John Henry Williams - usually with the whole of their being.

    2) $700- for an autographed baseball? $5,000 for a bat? The prices are extremely unrealistic.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Here in Boston, JHW is considered among the worst human beings, period, this hobby notwithstanding... he once had his dad sign an old American flag that flew at Ted's Hernando, Florida home and JHW put it on eBay with pics of his dad signing to "legitimize" the auction and drive up interest... it was shameful as Ted was clearly declining (this was in winter of 2001) and looked nearly out of it with the Sharpie in his hand... the bastage got $3000+ for the flag.

Reliable dealers in this area swear that JHW could sign Ted's name flawlessly and it was actually him doing all the signing in the later years... and rumor has it that there is a warehouse in Florida filled with signed bats, photos, balls, and anything else imaginable... it was said to be enough to keep "new" Ted signatures coming into the marketplace for an additional 5-10 years following his death.

I do not consider the death of JHW to be without meaning... as my old grandmother used to say about people who thought they could get away with bad acts "God never sleeps."
  • Go with UDA Ted Williams items. No problems with those.
