Wish I had brought a camera with me...

I went to the state museum at the castle today. Thought it would be an ordinary place but I was unprepared for the amount of coins and medals they had that were in macro photo distance and with suitable lighting to take a shot. There were a number of beautiful German medals as well as fantastic coins from antiquity including the legendary Athens Owl, in many online pics they look archaic but in person they're just gorgeous. There were some coins from Syracuse that look magnificent. There were many of 18th and 19th century coins with monster toning with deep blues and violets. Medals with amazing relief I haven't even seen online before... I mean in a display they even had a stuffed monkey hold a rare Karlsruhe medal... A STUFFED FREAKING MONKEY.

Definitely should've brought a camera with me. Oh well.

The medal that stood out most was a Napoleon medal. Looked flawless and had beautiful sunset toning... if only I had a suction cup and a sharp diamond...

  • Let me get this straight. You went there without a camera? Coins are everywhere man!! What were you thinking?

I think you shoud go back and try for some of them. Then we could all talk about that crazy darkhourse we used to know before he went into "the big house". Maybe you could sign some coins for us from jail? image

Really how could you not take the camera?

Sounds like a great place to visit.

They allow photo's? I was under the assumption that this was a no-no....
  • I would smuggle one in... wouldn't use a flash of course (unless of course I was sure I could get away with it).
  • Well if the coins are in glass cases, flash wouldn't work anyway.

I would have took one anyway, and not use it if they said something.
