Guess the grade Kennedy Half -- GRADE REVEALED

Here's a new piece I just got yesterday ... care to guess the grade PCGS gave?

  • I can't grade it from your pics - it has the look of a matte proof in the pics. I'll guess MS65 but I'm probably way off. My edit was necessary 'cause I thought it was a 70-S at first.

I can't tell how much of the stuff I see in the fields is on the coin and how much is lint and scratches on the holder.

    I would guess MS67.

I agree, it looks 67 if those marks are on the holder, otherwise the 65 fits if those are on the coin.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

Minor marks, decent strike and luster. Could be high 65, but I've put worse in 66 holders. That's assuming the mark on the cheek is superficial.

looks like a 65, but your pics aren't too good.

I'd grade it MS65, but PCGS may have sixed it because if nice luster.

    Fivecents,

He'd be one happy collector. That would be about a $2500 coin.

Dang Russ... Maybe I should check the POP reports before I guess the grade.imageimageimage
  • Everyone guessed around it, but no one nailed it -- it's in a PCGS MS64 holder.

I'm not good at grading moderns, but when I got this coin (I bought it off E-Bay), I was surprised how nice it looked. Most of the marks that you see are actually on the coin, but I didn't think they looked severe enough to miss an MS-65 grade, and in fact I wasn't able to see any hits with the naked eye. This coin is a blast white coin with knockout luster, so I'm not sure why it graded MS-64. Any Kennedy experts know what would limit a coin like this to MS-64 in PCGS's eyes?

The only thing I can see in that image that would put it at MS64 is slight strike weakness. Unless there's a slight cleaning that got it netted.
