Poll: PCGS, NGC or Other

UncleJoeUncleJoe Posts: 2,536 ✭✭✭
If you were told that you would receive free coins but did not know the type or dates but the coins are all slabbed and the grades on the slab for the same coins are the same on a PCGS, NGC or Other TPG which would you choose?

Just prefer the looks of the smaller ANACS slab.

Let's see a Proof-65 Stella in an NGC holder or a Proof-60 1995 Kennedy half in a PCGS holder......hmmmm....let me think on it a bit....

Clarification: The choice is that you will get the same date and type coin (but you don't know which one) that has been graded the same grade by PCGS, NGC or Other TPG. Which slabbed coin would you request?

Joe. (Does this clarify the question?)

I think he's asking, would you rather have your sight unseen PR65 Stella in a PCGS or NGC holder, not would you rather have a Stella or a proof Kennedy.

Gee, given this the PCGS Forum, I wonder how the poll will turn out. image

Point taken. However, if I can bellieve a lot of the posts on these boards PCGS has an awful lot of detractors. I don't post to the NGC boards but if someone could run the same poll on NGC it would be interesting to see the results.

dorkkarl, I will trust in your objectivity. Knowing what you know (and yes you will be allowed to crack-out the coin after it is given to you) which slab would you choose?

My first choice would have been GSA, but they don't put numbers on the slabs.

But then you would have been looking for a particular type of coin. image

i would choose "other". anything else that assures a specific brand-name of plastic, i would perceive as a marketing ploy!

I will point out that I prefer the look of PCGS slabs. However, I own an equal number of NGC slabs as well as a few "other" TPG's.

    Any more votes?

    Joe.
  • The objections to PCGS are not due to overgrading but undergrading, poor poor poor and pitifull turnaround times, arrogance, and unacceptable customer service.

    What did I leave out?

But sight unseen I'd take a Morgan in PCGS and 19th Cent type in PCGS.

You have introduced additional bias toward PCGS by having the default vote be PCGS. I wonder if NGC would have any additional votes if they were the default. Remember, you can vote by accident before making a deliberate choice. Thus, any of these votes go to PCGS. Ideally, you would have to choose an alternative first, with no default.

I agree that may have merit if the poll was close but I don't think that can explain the wide margin.

Right now, I'm again in PCGS camp overall.
