I hate it when I get the coin buying bug!

I just had to buy some coins the other day, so I jumped on themints website and got the 2004 silver set, texas quarter rolls, and clad proof quarters. Unfortunately that did not appease my need for instant gratification. I went to the local coin store and bought some modern proofs to start up a modern type set, and a sharp looking 1863 IHC that I knew had been cleaned, it just looked so darn good I couldn't resist! Impulse buys like that on my meager coin budget are going to brake me!

  • been there done that. Wife is in the backyard now fuming about how much money I spent on coins lately. Cashed in stock options to buy back my domestic tranqility. She is still in the back yard though. Uh Oh.

Look at it this way. Different than many other forms of recreation, you will probably be left with something that you could more easily liqudate and recover some/all/or even profit if you should unfortunately have to weather any fiancial rainy days in the future.image

  • Zulan,

Your wife being in the back yard might be a blessing. She will be able to see the ebay squad coming, warn you, and you will have time to hide your dog. Can't have the dog getting kicked.

  • The best way to handle this is to upgrade! Say you have an MS65 and you see a nice 66. Let's say the 65 cost you $200 and the 66 can be had for $500. I look at the 66 and see a $300 price tag, since I will sell the 65. Often, I convince myself that the 65 will bring $300, so the 66 is only costing me $200. Using this technique, I can justify almost any upgrade!

Justifying new additions to a set are much more troublesome....
