        Draktone:

        Looks real to me.

        - Correct Type I/I for a 73-CC
        - Denticles look good
        - Traditional weak strike in the leg of the Reverse
        - Nothing that looks out of the ordinary on the obverse
        - Nothing that looks wrong on the reverse
        - Numbers and letters look like the right size

        Looks good. Tough date.

Yes, it's real - even tho the seller is from China. I bought one 75-CC from him and have been tempted to buy that coin.... just haven't gotten around to it. Plus the risk on a $2,000 coin is higher than on a $200 one.

Oops! Well, I know where there's one in the exact same condition advertised as BU by a seller in China. I like your odds better! image

To be on the safe side, I would weigh it. The copies are all under weight.

What would be a safe amount to pay for such a coin and what do you grade it? mike

Sounds like Darktone is gonna pull the trigger.

Safe amount? Is there such a thing? It's not possible to grade accurately off a scan because one cannot assess the luster, nor the possibility of a body bag for cleaning or altered surfaces. With that said, the coin appears to be high AU or low unc [again, depending on the luster]. IMO, $500 would be an absolute steal, $1,000 a good deal and $1,500 a reasonable price with upside if it grades out. Depending on how the coin appears in person. But it's your roll of the dice if you decide to buy a raw coin.

Hmmm - did I hedge enough? image
        • Pretty coin with potential. TDN is right on target.

In looking at the coin, I see an EF-45 but 73-CC's are tricky. Some have a good strike others are weak. In the end, the field luster is the factor that tells the story for this date. Good luck.

Steve is absolutely correct. The fakes weigh 23.6 grams and a real one weighs in at 26.7 grams.
Actually learning a few things here. What a great site.
