Greetings all:
As of today I am a new forum member posting for the first time. I have lurked on the boards in the past and have enjoyed the sharing of knowledge presented here and have enjoyed the repartee between forum members. I collected as a kid through college. I had never been to a coin show and by coincidence saw, while driving, a hotel Marqee listing the July, 1998 NorCal show. I stopped by on a lark to check the show out. The long dormant collecting bug sprang to life and since then I have engaged in the hobby.
I have collected lightside coins (primarily pre 1971), a few greyside coins and a few darkside coins. In my travels, I stop by local shops and occasionally attend shows looking for "cherries" to pick, particularly raw cameo proof and special mint set coins from 1950-1970 (blame this on Mr. Tomaska's book). These cameo coins in general and the cameo special mint set coins in particular are fascinating. That they can still be found in intact proof and SMS sets makes for an enjoyable treasure hunts without huge outlays of cash.
I am considering joining a TPG so I can submit coins directly for grading. I am also considering obtaining a digital camera so that I can take pictures of coins and share them with forum members (to obtain your opinions and feedback).
Without droning on in my first post, I will conclude by asking about 1951 cameo proof lincoln cents. Does anyone have one (raw or slabbed)?; if so can you post a picture of same?; and does anyone know the current populations of same at PCGS and NGC? Thanks.
TTT on 8-4-2024, 20 years later. I am still around and today send my initial forum posts back up to the top.

I will say these are difficult to find. Most of these pre-1955 Lincolns are difficult to locate in cameo. My 1951 proof Lincoln is not cameo.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I never knew that.
He was so laid back I'm surprised. I had assumed he just got busy at work.
I do remember his exodus was very sudden after I joked about his work piling up on him.
