Which states have the most collectors?

I have been selling PSA graded cards on EBAY for over a year now and I have noticed that the state with the most PSA card buyers is Pennsylvania. Then comes California.

The most? It has to be California. The most per capita however is probably somewhere in the upper midwest. Football collectors for sure are concentrated in the midwest (based on my experience and talking to Frank Rose, the publisher of Gridiron Greats, who mentioned most of his subscribers are in the midwest). Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois - all very strong. Baseball is pretty strong there too, but is probably more shifted east.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Nicky,
if you would sell cards that the New Hampshire collectors wanted then they would buy more. image

I say the reason California has so many Ebay buyers is because there aren't many good shows NOR good dealers in the state. There are a few, but finding one is tough--and they are mostly in southern CA while I'm in northern CA.

I have a dealer in my town, but he stocks a grand total of TWO overpriced, vintage raw cards that have been gathering dust in his case for five years now. Plus, he hires high school kids to run his store, and they have no clue about anything. I asked one of the dolts if they had any PSA graded cards and he stared blankly for a while and finally showed me a box of top loaders.

    Back to Ebay I go!

Are you referring to actual collectors?
    or are you including dealers?

    California probably has more Dealers...
but sure enough, collectors, might be different.

(With CA and TX not far behind).

Based on the number of different buyers
I've sold vintage graded football cards to :

    1. NY
    2. CA
    3. WI
    4. MD
    5. TX
    6. PA
    7. CO
    8. OH
    9. FL
    10. VA

Not sure what, or where, some of those places are,
but that's where I sent the cards to.

IMHO the SF Labor Day show blows the doors off all 3 Hollywood Park shows combined.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Mike,
Normally what I do is, ship a card with a bill to a random person and address out of the phone book. If they don't pay it, I send it to collections. Does anyone have phone books for the other 45 states?

My experience on ebay for four years has been that PA ranks up there but I have been surprised at how many cards I have shipped to Virginia.
