That's a decent article, but obviously NOT written by someone with extensive baseball card experience.

Anybody on this forum could do a better job. I think we're just happy that cards are mentioned on ESPN, but, in reality, the article isn't really all that.

Who was it here that posted about the 1964 Topps Ray Sadecki "ASS" card? Try finding that on ESPN!

Thanks for sharing...what a trip down memory lane!

    I loved this line:

<< <i>You Got the Look: You apparently needed three things to be a major leaguer in 1979: big hair, porn-star-quality facial hair and huge wire-rim glasses. >>

I thought this was a terrific article, even got me to chuckle once or twice... image

    I loved this line.
"When he stepped to the plate, he might as well have been carrying a sprig of parsley because his bat was nothing more than garnish"

Good article, brought up a few memories..sure, it's not going to win a Pulitzer or anything, but it was good humor for the day.

And how many people here already knew about the Mario Mendoza .278 error? I did, but I had never thought of how you arrived at that figure - I figured they just left the type from someone else's card, and tried to put together a list of everyone else with a career .278 batting average.

I enjoyed the article - it was meant to be light, not a serious card retrospective. As such, it works!

  • This quote made me laugh my a$$ off.

You know what I always say: Any dancin' friend of Pete Falcone's little brother is okay by me.

    Great article!

I could actually picture myself in my old bedroom at my parrents house, sorting out my cards by number, stacks of wrappers on the side, at least four to five pieces of gum in my mouth with plenty for reserve.

    Sure did take me back,

    Glen
