Collecting Morgans in Any Grade
Geez.....
Ken
Actually, I get concerned when a dealer claims that 1900 and 1899-O Morgans are "key dates".....
<< <i>I dont trust any dealer that uses trends for their third tier coin holders. My experience with the 3rd tier holders is that on average they over grade by as much as 3-4 points. Ms68= ms65. >>
Don't be so kind. Didn't someone recently cross an NTC MS69 silver quarter to a PCGS MS64?
<< <i>The bottom line is DON'T BUY NTC SLABS. Perfect feedback must mean a perfect seller...... because of Ebays flawless feedback system >>
Not the point.
The point is that if the person who started this thread ignores this seller because he sells NTC slabbed coins he just might miss some very nice coins that are in the NGC slabs that are sold. Feedback...who cares as long as the seller delivers the product when you pay for the item. If he does not deliver thats a different story and I am sure someone would have Negged him by now if that was the case.

True, if you have the time and inclination to weed them out. The problem is, a lot of time other people are doing the same, so even the ones that appear properly graded may not be such good bargains any more.
Here's an example of my point. Here's a recently completed auction on an NTC AU-58 1891-CC Morgan. To me, it looks like NTC may have got this one right and I was watching it and contemplating a snipe on it. Normally, this would be a good bargain-hunting opportunity, but it appears that a few other people noticed it, too, and it didn't get away all that cheaply despite the third-rate slab (cheaper, I think, than a PCGS or NGC 58 would have sold for, but not the orders of magnitude we're used to). So yes, some people *are* buying the coin and not the holder.
