Is U is or is U ain't a '48 Ruth?

Here's a 1948 Swell Sport Thrills Babe Ruth that I just couldn't believe. I'd like to get some other opinions on this card. It went for half of what I paid for mine, but here were the points:
1. Bad scan
2. What I could see, the card looked too crisp to be real, and I know there are unmarked reprints of this issue all over.
3. The seller sells housewares - seemingly never cards.
The capper was my email to the seller, about a Jackie Robinson card of the same issue that looked to be in the very same condition - the seller sent the following reply:
"Dear amerbbcards,
You asked:
"Both this card and the Ruth card look awfully crisp - is there any chance these are reprints?"
I went to the card dealer, and he said he wasnt sure if they were or not, because thiers no date of print or reprint on the card."
I passed on both cards; they went for a small percentage of what they should have gone for, which makes me think that other legit collectors of this issue read the same thing I did. What d'ya think?
