1943 Lincoln Penny no 4

I was just going through some 1943 pennies when I notice that one of them was missing the 4 in the 43 is that unusal for that year or did that happen a lot. It's one of those zinc-coated steel ones.image

  • It could be worn down to the point that you didn't notice it being there, perhaps.

Is it a 43-S? They are common.
  • No but I did find a few of those and 43 D's bought them at a auction. I have a 1944 with a lot of shine to it might be worth something.

actually its from the dies #4 being filled up with grease and crud.

if the metal of the planchet can't flow into the #4 of the die....well...it just doesn't show up on the newly struck coin.

A 44 zinc coated? Is that what you mean? Is it worth something? I hope this is what you mean.

mozeppa is quite right. It is a grease filled die that caused the #4 to dissapear.
