PLEASE LET ME HAVE YOUR OPINIONS ON ANACS CROSSOVERS

Who has some experience with crossing over NGC or PCGS coins to ANACS?
Am I wrong, or does it appear that nice clean coins in ANACS holders are selling at least as high as NGC coins in many auctions?

We have certainly had enough discussions about some of the shockingly lower grades that many of us have had from NGC as well as PCGS. So how about this, If you had a, better date, great coin that you thought was an MS 60 plus and it came back from PCGS or NGC as XF or AU would you submit the coin to ANACS for a second opinion? It does seem as though ANACS is not as political as the other two.
Also who knows what ANACS insurance is like?
I am hoping my personal experience with the two top graders is NOT being shared by many of you, but what I am seeing with my submittals is that in the case of very rare coins with total pop’s of less than 50 I am getting back high XF or AU grades on these. In several cases the difference in an AU or an MS 60 would be several thousands of dollars.
So what say all of you?

Out of a recent submission of eleven ANACS coins, all eleven crossed with NGC*.

*Of course, it helped by stating, "Cross At Any Grade" all over the invoice. image

    Braddick,
The question is will PCGS and NGC coins cross at a higher grade at ANACS?

ANACS is an excellent grading service. There is still a marketability problem as the coins become more expensive. As an example, I have an 1880 Indian cent in an ANACS MS65RED holder. The coin is very red, very original and very solid in the grade but I have had trouble selling it because it is not in a "big two" holder. I'm not giving it away so I still own the coin. I also don't want to play the crackout game with a bronze coin. I may own this coin for a very long time.
    All glory is fleeting.

I haven't tried this, preferring to cross my nicer ANACS coins to PCGS, which works quite well if you're selective about what you buy. I understand what you're trying to accomplish, but am skeptical if it will work or not. I don't have much experience submitting coins to ANACS, but if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. My reasoning would be that ANACS doesn't overgrade (like lesser grading services), but tries to grade accurately, so most likely, they will have the same perspective as PCGS and NGC on your coins. The dilemma you face is to pick the grading service who will grade your coins the most leniently, while maintaining integrity.

Maybe try a few of your coins at ANACS, and if the grades are favorable, try crossing them at PCGS or NGC. My experience has been that once a coin is in a reputable holder, it's chances of crossing improve.

Whoops. Sorry. My (limited, the way you've described it) experience is ANACS has the same tainted eye when it comes to evaluating competitors coins.

It's probably best to crack them out first.
Personally I wouldn't cross anything outside of PCI to ANACS and even then I'd go first with NGC.

if it is still in a pcgs holder I wouldn't have much of a problem crossing, I would think. If it is a coin which requires a specific designation that pcgs does not recognize, I would go to anacs. Otherwise, I would be happy with the pcgs grade/holder.

In the example above I'd enroll in a grading class.

If I'm thinking a coin is unc., and it's coming back from a service as xf/au, I'm not a good grader. I wouldn't need anyone's second opinion on that after results like that. Think "slap in the face". image

I submit to NGC and ANACS on a regular basis, and I don't see ANACS as giving out more "gifts" than NGC. My experience only.

Your speculation with the low pop coins is just that. I'm not sure where your thinking is coming from that if you are "getting back high xf or au grades", that the possibility remains that these coins could possibly grade au or ms/60 and you could reap the benefits of the "several thousand dollar" jump in value to the higher grades.

Do you have any specific examples you may share with us? Pic's ?

I cant comment on the crossing per say, but becuase of the turn around time at PCGS currently, I have been using ANACS on several better type pieces to get them turned over faster. These are coins that I hand picked up that are very nice for the grade and coins that would holder easily at PCGS. But, when the auction is over, the prices realized are less on average than what they would have been had they been in a PCGS holder. Same coin, but different plastic. And I thought ANACS did a real good job on my lastest submissions, little tough on some of the copper, but overall I have been very pleased. But, one thing is for sure, The market acceptablitly probably will never be of equal to PCGS. And therefore, when its time to decide which coin goes where for submission, I have to decide is the extra time and expense worth the time and money, sometimes it is on the better material, and other time sit is not.

I have only submitted two coins to PCGS during this past year for cross, two did, one didnot>
