$20 seems a bit high. I got a 88 proof set on ebay a few days ago for $8.50 including shipping. 2004 redbook has it valued at $12. Looks like a very nice set though.

Wow, but I like that .25 c! Are you going to crack 'em out?
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

I'm tempted sometimes to crack open some of my proofs but the jury is still out on that. I have proofs from my birth year (1961) through 1991 as well as 2003, 2004 now. Need to fill in the gaps for a full set then decide if I want to go through the trouble and expense to crack out the best coins in the sets to have graded.

Any thoughts to share on the pros and cons of cracking sets? Especially the early 60's where they are packaged in cellophane or whatever plastic that is.

It really depends on the coin for me. I purchased a set just a week ago just for the half alone. One set just for a dime that was frosty and toned. I'd say that 25c and then the 50c are pretty nice.

I tried to get a closer scan of the $.25 in this set for you Goober. I just may crack this out and submit...the half as well. I can always get another full proof for my set image

  • So I take it , I wouldn't be doing myself wrong to crack the .25 out and slab it eh? I'm still fiddling around with my scanner to see what quality I can get until I get a macro lens. Here are closer shots of the half. Not as frosty on the reverse as the .25 but still nice. The toning on the obverse left side is reflection off the plastic. these were scanned at 1200 dpi then reduced to fit.imageimage
