David Akers

Can anyone tell me if David Akers is still active in the numismatic markets? I assume that he is not, given that I have not really heard anything about him lately (and please excuse my ignorance if he is not among us anymore). Thanks.

He's slowing down, but not yet retired. He was at FUN and I know he'll be at ANA.

    Longacre,

I see David Akers at a very small number of shows each year. In each instance he has some very special coins on display and/or for sale.

That's all true. I've only seen the guy once or twice myself (probably at the Anaheim and Denver ANA's). He always had some great coins. One time (I think it was Denver) he had on display a full Saint set (sans the 33 of course). It was a thing to behold. It was not his as the owner was with him at the table. He was a retired truck driver as I recall...quite amazing to be able to put that set together.

Hey isn't Tony Soprano in the trucking business?

  • The Saint set was not owned by a retired truck driver. It was owned by a collector who owned a major tanker truck firm (Krondeke I believe). You actually see his trucks all over.
