Question for 1971 Topps Coin collectors

I picked up this '71 Topps Coin of Johnny Bench cheap, with the idea of adding it to my registry set. But seeing it in person, I have a feeling it wouldn't grade very well. It has some oxidation, which I'm sure is a big downgrade. This is the first coin I've had since I was a kid, so I'd like a more knowledgeable opinion on whether I should bother grading. Only two of this Bench coin are in the pop. report, graded 6 and 7.

If you can find a NRMT+ I would have it graded. They are out there.

I would not grade this one.

I agree with Carew. They aren't that hard to find. I'll check my box of coins and see if I have a Bench for you.

    JEB.
  • Agreed- I'd bet it gets a 4. Poor centering, the rim has issues, and the photo is not crisp (+fish eye over Johnny's head). You should be able to find a nm example with marginal effort, and the higher end coins look really sharp. Good Luck.

Thanks all for confirming this is a poor example for grading. Another item for my Bench Wall of Fame!

Lizard, that would be great if you have one to spare. Please PM me if so.
