All of you. Being so helpful. Answering my questions. Talking about interesting coins. getting me all fired up about coin collecting.
You... You... *&*&$#%*)*%)
I was at a street fair this morning in seattle. Taking the kids and having some fun. Wandering around, I find a little side corner of a huge booth that has some... what is that?? Coins!!!! Great!!! I will just take a little look.
Say... wasn't that helpful guy LordM looking for 1901 victorian coins? These are all british coins!! Maybe I should look through here to see if I can find something on the cheap and send one to him. Wow... this is cool. This coin is beat up pretty bad, but it costs a buck and it has a 1787 date on it. I will just buy it and see what it is. (turns out is was a 1787 connecticut copper)
Say... this is a pretty cool 1827 1/3 farthing. Great shape too! I will just buy this as well, its cheap!!!!
To make a long story short, I spend $50.00 on coins. BRITISH coins.
I got
1) An awesome 1794 half-penny (XF maybe) in great shape. I am assuming this is a "conder" token.
2) A 1827 Canning coin in VF that was minted at his death. Kinda weird. Still looking at that one.
3) a 1834 1 1/2 pence in fine condition
4) A 1864 farthing that is still shiny!! AU condition I am hoping.
5) A weird italian(?) coin that I am working on identifying
6) A 1827 1/3 Farthing in VF to XF.
7) A really beat up 1799 penny (for a buck) just because it was cool
8) 2 gaming tokens (one dated 1788 and one dated 1701) that I now know are just gaming tokens from the early 1800's
9) A really really big 1797 penny(?) with the lettering incised into the massive rim (yes, its that big). It is barely ledgable, but it has an interesting HUGE "I.O" counterstamp right in the middle of it. Still working on that one.
10) The aforementioned 1787 connecticut copper. The coin is really beat up but for a buck?? I loved it.
My point here is that I spent 50 bones, worked on researching these coins all night, I have to go to work in 5 hours and i have had no sleep. I blame YOU!!!! You made it easy to fall in love with coins again after a 30 year break.
Thanks a LOT!!!

I'm really glad you are interested in Darkside coins! They can be a lot of fun and bang for the buck. Your coin #9 is called a "cartwheel" because it's so big. It and its larger brother, the 2-pence, were the first products from the new steam-powered minting equipment designed by Samuel Boulton. And you got a Connecticut copper for a buck?? Sounds ultra-cool.
