Satchell Paige '04 Leaf Certified Mirror Gold #03/25

After opening one box, this was the best I got. Any one venture to guess on the value, or will Beckett not even list the card due to scarcity? I really have no idea since it is a old timer card. Thanks!

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?

  • is it a jersey piece? if so, $150

I am in the process of busting a case of this (24 boxes). Even if it is the Mirror Gold Jersey, $150 is a bit high IMO. Maybe $50 range on Ebay, and far less if it is not a jersey card.

I do like the product so far...after just 4 boxes ripped, I pulled a sweet Nolan Ryan auto /50, a Delmon Young auto /50, and a few nice HOF GU Bat/Jersey combos (Rod Carew for example). When I rip the whole case, I will list the break here.

    ctsoxfan,

I will buy any Bogg that you should get. Heck a case you should get a few. THere must be 50 Boggs alone. I am only buying a few products this year and Leaf is one. A nice product!

  • It is not a jersey piece. But I have read a ton of box breaks on the Beckett Boards, and no mention of a HOF Mirror Gold yet. They may be a bit tough.

Soxfan - you are busting a case, let me know if you pull any of the HOF Legend cards, let alone any Mirror Gold versions.

    Thanks,

James - you're in. I'll save any Boggs for you that I pull. Roach, I'll let you know also. So far, I pulled a Mirror White (# to 100) of Lou Brock, and a Whitey Ford regular (#500). But, I have most of the case to go yet...

Ive opened 15 boxes of this stuff and was amazing once again. I liked the design last year better but that
hasn't stopped people from buying this stuff! I had a regular Ted Williams gold that I sold for 50 bucks, so the
Paige is worth more than you think. I also pulled a regular Boggs /500...these regular cards by my guess are
only 2-3 per case. Please let me know if you want to trade any of these as I would be interested. I can post
my breaks too even though some of my cards have already been sold.

    Good Luck

I can't believe there are Satchel Paige jersey card. How many actual game-worn Paige jerseys can there be? To me, that almost seems worse than cutting up a Ruth, Wagner or Mathewson jersey.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • i can't believe the other Paige cards (numbered to 50 and 100) have jersey swatches, but not the Mirror Gold.

i figured a $150 estimate for a numbered jersey card would be about right, since this is his first memorabilia card and it's likely there won't be many more

There are actually parallels of all the cards....mirror golds both GU and non-GU. I think Paige is in the base
    SP set.

    Atlanta Braves coaching jersey?

    Lame.
  • helionauthelionaut Posts: 1,555 ✭✭
Yeah, I knew it, at least it's not polyester. I knew it wasn't a real gamer, which to me is a jersey he wore while playing in a game that counts in the standings (not an Old Timer's game, charity softball game, or other such non-events). Being a coach doesn't really count for me. Still, it is tempting. My HOF GU collection has stalled, and this is an unexpected addition.

  • Anyone have a checklist for the SP's in this set? I cannot locate it anywhere.

    Thanks

Perhaps overshadowed by the sizable pre-release buzz surrounding 2004 Leaf Certified Materials Baseball last week is the fact that the popular product features the industry's first memorabilia cards of the legendary Satchel Paige.

Paige, one of the most prolific pitchers of his era, spent 22 dominant years in the Negro Leagues, six in the majors and entered the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. He threw a reported 55 no-hitters during his Negro League career, becoming the league's most popular and recognizable superstar, and its largest gate attraction. He joined the major leagues in 1948 and promptly helped the Cleveland Indians win the World Series that year.

In 1965, at the age of 59 and 12 years since he'd last pitched in the majors, Paige started one game for the Kansas City A's, hurling three shutout innings. Three years later, he was a coach with the Atlanta Braves, where he wore the jersey Donruss officials have incorporated into 2004 Leaf Certified Materials.

"Satchel Paige is a baseball icon and one of the most prolific and popular players in the history of professional baseball," said Ben Ecklar, Donruss' baseball brand manager. "For us to be able to provide the industry with his first memorabilia cards is a great thrill for us, and another example of how we continue doing everything we can to set our products apart from others on the market."

There are several versions of Paige's first memorabilia cards, as they appear in Leaf Certified's Mirror Materials parallel set as well as the popular and tiered Fabric of the Game insert. Fabric of the Game versions numbered out of 100 have been selling in the $100 neighborhood online.

  • Not a bad pull- I'd say 50.00 range.

talk about short prints...you all might want to check your stack of "commons" again...I have opened
18 boxes and have pulled just one card from #s 201-210!! These cards picture the players in their old uniforms
and by my count very very rare...perhaps one per 24 boxes!

Paige is a welcome and smart move for playoff, while the other are giving Dave Kingman and Tim Raines, they
    are giving us value.

Kevin, I think they are SP's, but the last two boxes I broke each had one (201-210) in them. And, I have a few others from the half case I have gone through thus far.

wow that is nice! congrats, have you broken all your boxes yet?

    Kevin
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Actually no, only half way done. 12 boxes to go, probably this weekend.

If you are interested I would love to put together a trade....what are you hoping to pull from the case?

  • BasiloneBasilone Posts: 2,492 ✭✭

    Joe Stalin-

I broke 7 boxes and only pulled 2 of those cards as well !!!
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
    what else did you pull?

    Kevin
  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
Kevin, not sure. I am probably going to Ebay with what I pull from the case, to recoup some of what I laid out for it. I always liked this product, so I figured instead of buying 4-5 boxes at a clip like I usually do, just buy a whole case. That way, I am assured of a search free break. When its all done, I might be interested in some trading...I'll let you know.

As far as the SP's, I haven't gone through my pile of "commons" from my other boxes, but I ripped two boxes tonight...one had a Clemens high number, the other had a Soriano high number.
