In the IKE collections, what does "nograde" mean?

In The Wang Fanily Collection I noticed that they have a "nograde" IKE, what does that mean in this case?

I ws looking to see who had the 1972 MS66 Type 2 coin and I saw this "nograde" thing and I was wondering.

  • I have seen this in Morgan and Peace Dollar sets, I didn't know there where any in the Ike dollars.
I believe it is an extimated grade based on a coin that David Hall has reviewed, but that is not in a PCGS slab.

It is a re-grade. Someone sends the coin in for regrade (which means in the holder). As soon as it is graded, the original certificate number becomes invalid (and thus the coin in the registry set is denoted nograde since the cert number has no grade assigned to it). The owner can then update their set with the new number for the same coin (sometimes with a higher grade).

  • Exactly as 55/55 said. What I would like to know is why hasn't PCGS fixed this flaw in their system yet? How difficult would it be to have one of their programmers fix this so that the coin is automatically updated for a coin sent in on regrade? Another good question for DH on Tuesday.

I have sent in many coins for re-grade and they always become part of the set when the cert # is changed. Maybe the coin was sent in by someone other than the owner ( like a dealer) and until it's returned to the owner so that ownership can be established, they assign a no grade to the coin.

dbldie55 is right. I fixed it by adding new cert numbers.

  • Cool.
That is a really really super nice set of IKE's you have there.
    Thanks for sharing.
