PCGS Graders ?

Anybody know exactly how many graders are on the PCGS Payroll? How many grade each submission? Is it a consensus grade or does just one grader make the call? Just curious.......
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I think it's 3 graders per coin--consensus system... that's what all the respected companies use.

3 graders plus a finalizer supposedly pass judgement on each coin. I assume the small differences of opinion reflect the fact that the Morgans lets say are NOT always graded by the same 3 graders. If they have 15 graders I assume all 15 are qualified to grade Morgans, but not all 15 will grade colonials, for example.

I thought that all errors were sent to Fred Weinberg's crew?

No idea. Maybe they send questionable ones to them for certification and pcgs does the grade part image

My post was the info a dealer/board member gave me when I asked about the number of graders maybe 8 months ago. He said it was listed in the info pcgs gave him.

I think they have like 10 to 15 graders total.

Modern coins are only graded by one grader and spot checked by a finalizer type person from what I have been told. mike

OK, the real reason I ask is, why does the fact that PCGS attends a specific coin show affect the guaranteed turn-around times? Certainly all the graders don't attend or do they?

I just submitted a couiple of 15 day turn arounds and they were received on the 29th. That means my day clock starts on the 30th and the blackout starts on the 12th which is business day 10 for me. That means I night not see my grades until after the 27th!

Isn't anybody running the shop during coin shows? image
