Info Request...

Greetings everyone:

I've been collecting Wade Boggs' cards for a long time, and going through my collection tonight, I came upon a set of cards I had forgotten about. Its a set of cards by Star, dates 1986, and they are 3-panel wide. There are a total of 8 panels, and I've been looking everywhere for information on them. I don't even remember where or when I got them.

1) Is it possible to get them graded still together, 3-wide? I don't want to break them up to be graded

and 2) anyone have an approximate value of their worth? By no means an expert, I've taken very good care of them, and would say they would fetch no lower than an 8, possibly 9s.

I think they are called the 'Bat King' series....just again, unable to find any info on them.

Thanks!

Brian

    Hi Brian!

Star issued cards in 1986 called Star '86 (of all things). Eight different players were part of the set. 24 cards of Boggs were issued on 8 three-card panels. Panels, as you know, were perforated. Book value for the set of panels is $2.50 (no price information for singles). He can also be found in glossy panels and stickers in the same set.

I imagine that PSA would grade single cards, but it appears that the only one of these that they have ever done is a Jose Canseco card which was not issued in panels. I would have to think the value of a Boggs single in PSA 9 would not bring more than the cost of grading. Neat items though. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info...but how would I go about finding if PSA would grade them as-is, without being torn apart? I'd like to have them graded not so much for selling, but to have them match the rest of the Boggs cards.

One more item to requst? I have a large round sportsflics card of boggs that says 86 batting champ, and also have one of the same size that is of Don Mattingly. I think it was a redemption of some sort, but it's been far too long for me to remember.

If memory serves me correctly due to star cards appearing from now where and the possibility of Fakes or old employess making new star cards from the 80's mainly Michael Jordan PSA wont grade them. If you are intrested in PSA Boggs drop me an email I have a few.
