Need some help from the unopened wax specialists here.

I was thinking of buying a wax box of 82 topps. I have a few questions for you.

1) Is there a trusted seller out there who you know hasn't searched these?
2) Are they searchable w/o actually opening the packs and resealing?
3) What is a good price?
4) Can you find these sealed or did they not seal boxes back then?

82 was the first year I opened cards, I would like to re-live some of those memories.

Thanks
Kevin

I have had real good luck with Mark Murphy, BBCKid, and trust him completely.
If he buys a case and opens it and sell the boxes, you are more than OK IMO.
The boxes are not sealed - I trust him tho - and yes, I would not be surprised if someone had figured out the sequence of the packs in the boxes - anything is possible. Baseball Card Exchange is also reputable from what people have told me. I have no first hand experience. Is it the pack experience or would you consider a vending box? What about Donruss or Fleer?

edited to add disclaimer - im no "unopened wax specialist"

I'm glad to see you showing interest in some older cards! i agree with Stone on Mark Murphy.. i dont think ive ever bought from BBCExchange, though.. and vending boxes are great, you wont have any wax stained cards.. but opening packs is much more fun!

i've said it numerous times, i've dealt with murphy and bbcexchange and they are the only guys i would consider for vintage or older unopened.
a couple of years ago i bought four 89 UD low series boxes from dave and adams and it was probably the worst 800+ i spent, not one griffey.....you would think i would have got at least one, after all i got nearly 20 dante bichette rookies.

I bought a 82 Topps wax box (along with other years) from Steve Hart of bbcexchange.com. The boxes were case fresh and the service was great. I pulled 3 Ripken rookies from the box. I also bought a 1989 UD low series box that yielded 2 Griffeys, 3 Johnsons and 3 Sheffields. I highly recommend bbcexchange. In addition to the wax boxes, you can buy the vending boxes from him with confidence. Good luck.

Kevin, Click the link below to go to the Baseball Card Exchage web site. I've delt with these guys many times and they are a trusted name in the hobby when it comes to unopened material, you may pay a little more when you buy from them but you get what you pay for. I did a quick search and they have 1982 racks, vending, wax boxes and pack as well as cello boxes. Tell us what you pull if you buy anything from 1982.

You guys are great, Im close to pulling the trigger with the card exchange. I can buy a vending box for 70
or a wax box for 125.00. So vending boxes are wrapped? Am I paying the extra money for the fun of the
rip? Do I have equal odds of pulling a Cal?

    Thanks

You picked a good time to buy the 82T! The cost used to be way higher. Of all the vending I have opened, I have never gotten more than one key RC and have been luckier with the wax. The last 79T vending I opened yielded 0 Oz and 0 Ryan. Whereas the 78T yielded 1 Molitor, 1 Murray and 1 Dawson second year card. 70$ for the vending is a good price IMO also. So, if I had some money to burn, I would be tempted to buy 1 wax for fun and 2 vending for the set and possible RC Ripkens. What do ya think? Here's the link to the BBCKid.

At the National, I bought a '79 Vending box from BBCEx. I pulled one Ozzie, one Ryan, two Ryan/Johnsons, two Reggies, two nearly perfect Benches, two Morgans, and nearly two of every other hall of famer/star in the box. Needless to say, I highly recommend them image.

Damn Ian that is unbelievable! BTW, I did not buy the 79T from Murphy or the Exchange. I have a 79T vending case but haven't decided what to do with it yet. When I do, I will let the people here know first!
    Thanx for the info

Mike - if you crack the case, let me know.

I also recommend Steve Hart (BBC Exchange). But, I recently had another bad experience with Dave and Adams. I bought a 1977 vending box from them, and the cards were in awful shape (unsearched box this time though, unlike my 1985 vending I bought from them). The box itself wasn't well cared for over the years, and just about every card was frayed, dinged, bent, you name it. I don't know where they bought the boxes from, but it wasn't worth the $400 I spent (at all).

i was thinking about a vending box of 1980' topps from bbxchange would you have the same chance of pulling a henderson or ryan as going with the wax ? or are you better off going the pack route ?
    thanks ahead,

Mike, I second that. Let me know if you want to get rid of a box if you break the case. I like those '79 vending boxes image.
