On the one hand, A-F makes it easy to broadly group grades of coins. On the other, it carries a negative connotation. For example, a nicely circulated 1916 SLQ in Fine isn't a "D" (in the sense of the gradeschool approach) - it could be an A+ for that given coin. Not all non-MS coins are "Fs" and "Ds". However, if you look at it strictly as a grade ranking, I guess it is OK.
