These were all in older PCGS holders, that I thought deserved another look.

1939 D Mercury Dime Old Grade of MS65

I think I done pretty well! Here's the new grades:

Wow what a jump on the Merc - 2 grades and the designation.

Two out of three is outstanding! I don't know anything about Mercs, but that Morgan just took a tidy little value spike.

Not to down play the members coin but that kind of crap has been going on with common date Mercs for a little over a year. It sort of looks like PCGS did not know how to grade these in the past, or they do not know how to grade them now. Hmmm....which one.

All of the 67's and 68's that are popping out now sort of makes a person that bought a 66 a couple of years ago look like a fool who wanted to throw his money away because basically a 66 is worth nothing now.

Please no one tell me to adjust to todays standards. Grading standards do not change this much. Something else is going on with these.

I'll say this much. This proves 3 things. #1- You have a good eye, my friend. #2- This debunks the theory going around lately that PCGS has gotten 1/2 to a point tougher and #3- There still are some cherries to be found in some of these OGHs.image

A decent upgrade for the Merc. It'd probally sell for about $75 now... whereas in a MS65 holder probally about $20-$25, maybe a little more being an older holder... not bad though... image

Hmmm... Money Coins versus Common Coins. Get the picture ?

Fairlaneman I have wondered the same thing in the past and still think that getting a bump on more desirable coins will be tougher than on common coins, but I am still happy I got what I did with the merc.

I knew the Merc was not a key but still I thought it might jump a point. I got a pleasant surprise when the Merc came in the mail as I knew it should FB. Now even a bigger surprise when it took 2 jumps with FB. It should be worth more than the $28 I paid for it on ebay. The Pop for the Merc is 322 with 88 better, so it's not a pop top but it still is nice.

The Morgan was purchased on ebay and all along with the pictures he had (it was in an old holder) it looked to me it would ugrade at least a point. When I got it in the mail I really thought it would go. Naturally I was hoping for 2 points on it. image Still 1 point is a nice increase in value!

The Franklin was in an old rattler slab at 65 and now I wish I had left it. It was heavily toned and I guess I can not see through the toning to tell.

nwcs: These were sent in the slab, not cracked out.

All in all I am lovin' it!! image
