PCGS online memberships ot?

Well im not the sharpest pencil in the cup but im thinking the plat.membership might be best since i am really paying about 89 a year instead of 99 every yr. and i get 8 submissions? plus any others i want to pay for. then i get to choose from the coin grading/countfit book OR a PF69 coin. i think for my place in life the book would be MUCH better of a choice.

think im on the right track ?

    What coins do you want to submit and why do you want to submit them? If you don't have anything worthwhile to send in, I suggest not signing up at all...

    well theres always the 1882 i wanted to get protected in a slab. but theres some others ive found that might hold very good grades including my XF40 1859 1 cent. my 1882 O/S morgan and a few others that are either high grade or errors. items like my hoarding of wheats wouldnt be involved or my 1914D which i know would be a waste wouldnt be graded. but i do have some i would like to be slabbed and i think would give off good grades. ( also i can get the book this way as well.

    i know my heart and all is in the right place but am i missing the boat all together?

    1- If you want to protect a coin, buy a holder--CoinWorld holders cost under $2 and are the same size as PCGS holders, if I'm not mistaken
    2- I don't see any compelling financial reason to slab an XF 1859 cent. It's a nice type coin--don't entomb it, it won't be worth more
    3- Are you selling? Do you need the gradings? They'll always be available if you choose to sell later on.

    Think about those... then save your money. A platinum membership costs as much as an UNC $5 Liberty...

    Get your pencil out, sharpen it up and figure this out:

    1. How many pre-1965 coins will you submit this year?
    2. How many pre-1965 coins will you submit next year?
    3. How many post-1965 coins will you submit this year?
    4. How many post-1965 coins will you submit next year?
    5. How many coins over $300 will you submit this year?
    6. How many coins over $300 will you submit next year?

    A = Multiply #1 * 16
    B = Multiply #2 * 16
    C = Multiply #3 * 12
    D = Multiply #4 * 12
    E = Multiply #5 * 30
    F = Multiply #6 * 30
    G = Multiply #1 * 30
    H = Multiply #2 * 16

    Putting a $15 value on the book then

    If G+H is less than 84, Join Silver
    If A+C+E is greater than 84, Join Gold
    If A+B+C+D+E+F is greater than 164, Join Platinum

    ...or, if you must submit the coins, have a dealer do it. Then again, I'll maintain that the coins shouldn't be certified

    Atarian...listen to both relayer and airplanenut. They are being realistic with you. If you do not have coins that would merit a $30/ $50/ $100 grading fee, either stay at the silver level or maybe do not join or renew at a higher level until you do.. It's just not practical! They're only trying to help you and certainly are NOT misleading you!

    if you not selling the coins and they aren't for a registry set don't wast your hard earn cash. bottom line is slabs are wonderful for buying sight unseen and look real cool in a reg set.

    I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

    Always looking for nice type coins

  • I just signed up for the gold membership and selected the grading book. For $99 you not only get the book (or the coin) but four submissions. Seems worth it to me. Also, if I some decent coins to my collection I may sign up again next year.
