Just how hard are these to get in change now?

With the mintage of the 2001 Sac dollars almost a tenth that of 2000 sacagawea dollars, just how hard are they to find in change? These are the ONLY two 2001 sac's I've found (well, I found the Denver, step sister found the Philly and let me have it). I know from 2002 and on, they were only sold (for a premium) to people from the mint, and I'm sure some have opend bags and spent 'em, so how hard is it to find 2002, 2003, and 2004 sac's in circulation?

I think I've found one, ever. At the P.O., of course. Bought a low-value purchase from the stamp machine with a $20 bill and my change was an assorted handful of Sacs and Susies.

I have to beg my bank to get Sacs and have never received one in cirdulation. So far all the Sacs I have received were 2000, although I once got a brass-colored 1979 SBA. As for 2002, 2003, and 2004 Sacs in change - fuhgettabowtitt!

So far I've managed to find one 2002D Sac. There's probably more out there, but you'll probably have to do a lot of looking. image
  • Dang... I can get sac dollars easier than I can get half-dollars around here, but have only found 2000 sacs, two 2001 sacs, and the rest are 1979 SBAs. Never seen anything older than an SBA in change, either. I've been looking for halves at grocery stores, as well, looking for silver, but 90% of the places don't have them. What place DID have halves were all clad, and they had the same ones a week later. >_<

Step sister got the 2001-P sac at a post office while getting a money order (well, I had to ask if they had any dollars or halves in the register. Like I have to at EVERY place. Haven't seen any place actually willingly give them in change).

Oh well, my search for silver in change, and newer sac dollars continues.

I got some SACs in change at the drive-thru, and I asked the cashier where the rest of my change was (thinking they were quarters).

  • I have to buy stamps at the post office (vending machine) to get any.
The bank only has them for the USPO now.
Dollars and Halves, my bank doesn't bother to stock them anymore.
They said no one wants them (the businesses), so there's no sense in getting them in.
Heck, they even stopped getting 2 dollar bills in too, bummer. I can only
get 2 dollar bills, if some business or customer turns in some to the bank.
No one has done it in over three months now.
I like to spend the 2 dollar bills, it's always great fun.image

  • Those that are late 2001 on are those that have been released into the wild by collectors like myself, as best as I understand. I don't think the federal reserve had released 2001-on into circulation. I could be wrong...
  • I've put quite a few 2001/02/03/and about fifty 04's in circulation both P and D mint
