Is this a 1972 type 2 ike?

Hey,

I picked this up a little while back for 1.75 out of a junk bin. I thought it was a type 2. Am i right?

  • That's a type 1. It has the flatened area on the left side and raised continental outlines. The type 2 is round with weak details and incuse continental outlines.

  • Ok, thanks, but I dont see any islands. I thought that there had to be islands for it to be a type 1. They could have just wore away though.
  • I can see the islands, although they are faint. It may be due to die wear or weak strike. Keep looking for those type 2's...they are out there. I found five type 2's in a BU roll a few months ago and 2 of them graded MS65 (along with 3 type 1's that graded MS65). Not bad for a $40 purchase...

    DANG!....Telecoin, What was your heartrate by the time you finished going through that roll?image

    Heck, I'd probably pass out if I found even TWO 65's of ANY 72-P Type in the same roll!image
