Silly Newbie submission question?

Does PCGS take submissions from another slabber.
Or, do I have to break it out myself?

I have a real nice Mercury dime in a NGC I want to have it put into a PCGS. Do they do that?

I understand that the grade may change. I really like the coin though.

Just curious.

You can send it as a crossover, but you might do better if you crack it--it can be seen more easily.

Why do you want to reholder it?

Yes, that is what is called a crossover grade. You submit it in the holder and if it meets the criteria you specify (either cross at any grade or only if it is xyz grade) they will crack it out for you.

    Nevermind.

Yes, you can "cross over." You have the option of telling PCGS whether or not you'll accept a downgrade. If you don't accept a downgrade, PCGS returns the NGC slab unopened if they don't agree that the coin is at that grade or better. You can also "cross at any condition," in which case the coin could come back in a PCGS slab at a lower, higher *or* the same grade.

Many who have played the reholder game insist (I'm not an expert there except for cracking out ACG and PCI) that you're better off cracking out and submitting raw in most cases to eliminate any potential bias.

I would send it holdered and ask to be crossed over at any grade, but that's me. I would not crackout unless I was very, very sure. I sent in some crossovers at any grade and got the final tally yesterday. One was in a SEGS MS67 and crossed over MS66. Another was a NGC MS61, crossed over MS61.
