Whats it worth????????????????????

A friend of mie asked what a $50 bag of 1964 pennies from the mint is worth? I said I would ask. Any estimates? I prefer the retail price not the dealers buying price.

a $50 bag of unopened 1964 pennies from the Philadelphia U.S. Mint. It is still sealed with the mint string and the lead string lock. I am not selling. I am just wondering what it is worth.

Thanks, CACHENUT.

No idea other than at least $50... probably not much of a premium, especially as there are no special things from the year to search for (like doubled dies).

Probably worth more if you deposited them in your savings account and drew interest on them... over many, many years of course.

Not a big demand for 1964-P cents, expecially 5,000 of them. I'd guess he'd be lucky to get $75 for the bag.

His best bet would be to either eBay the entire bag in one lot or sell the 100 rolls in individual lots.

My guess is that this would sell as more of a novelty than as collectable coins (tell him the only way to know is to throw them on eBay).

1964 is the year the roll & bagh boom went bust. This is a very common bag. Not much of a premium over face and certainly a bad investment if you consider the interest lost over the past 40 years.

  • PCGS MS66Rd sell for less than the cost to slab them. BU rolls are Greyshhet at .70. So unless you can find an MS 67, its a face value bag.
