Know anything about Ellesmere Coin?

I saw this company mentioned in a post and I checked out their web site. They are local to where I live. Does anyone have any experience with them? Their prices on gold coins seem reasonable. Thanks.

I do occasional business with them at shows. They are nice people and generally handle very nice coins.

I have bought a couple of coins from them through the mail. When talking on the telephone with them all of the employees were Very, and I stress Very, friendly. The coins were fine also.

Both Jims were met at the Portland ANA show this last spring. They did not stay away from the show like a few of the other National Dealers did that were suppose to be there. image

  • They are great people to do business with but some of their coin prices are a bit on the high side if you shop you might find a better price.

I also have purchased from them and everything went very smooth. They always have some of the scarcer coins. They publish a free guide to buying and investing, what to buy, and what grades for type collectors etc. This publication and their monthly news letter are free for the asking. They seem to have really done their research here, but some of their recommended coins can get pretty pricey, although they seem to call them the way they see them.

I have dealt with one of their 2 Jim's, and they are honest, reputable and have reasonable pricing. They'll work with you on the phone to describe a particular coin.

They are more phone and people oriented than internet oriented...

Funny you mention Ellesmere because I was just about to ask the same question. I recently had a transaction with them on eBay for a really neat Mercury dime. Everything was fine...quick shipping, nice coin, etc.

What I thought was strange was that I emailed them at a couple different addresses when I won the auction to let them know I'd be sending payment ASAP, and again after I received the coin to let them know it got there OK and I had left Positive Feedback. They never replied to any of the emails, which I thought was a little strange. Usually a seller will respond with "OK, thanks" or "Glad you liked the coin"...something like that. Oh well.

PS: Here's the coin, by the way...

  • They publish a newsletter format sales list, "The Winning Edge", and over-hype the investment potential of there wares. Everything seems overpriced to me!
  • Only one purchase from them, but I was extremely pleased with the service and the coin. It is the 1935S MS66 in my registry set. I found them to be overly courteous on the phone as well. I would not hesitate to shop them again!
  • I have purchased from them a number of times, and they are excellent! Nice and couteous, and a pleasure to deal with.

When you buy something from them, they also send you this booklet called "638 coins with a fundamental reason to rise in value."

I think I have like one of the coins listed in the bookletimage

They have some nice coins, but are fairly overpriced.
Worth looking at their ebay auctions, they drop the prices considerably from their website.image

I have seen several of their coins listed on Ebay, and since I mainly collect high graded PCGS Walkers I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to have them send me one on approval that the price seemed to good to be true and, and after talking to them on the phone and trying to confirm what I had my doubts about with their description, they sent the Walker to me......

As it turned out my suspicion was well founded and I returned the coin... I have noticed this problem with several of the dealer/sellers on Ebay that if they have a coin that is low end for the grade, or downright overgraded they will try to turn it on Ebay, before trying to wholesale trhe coin...... Other than that I found Ellesmere to be very cordial and willing to work with a collector.....

Just my humble opinion in trying to tell it like it is.image
  • I was one for one with them. I bought one coin and liked it. The other order was a nightmare. Getting a refund was impossible. Got a lot of B.S. before I finally threatened action.

Hadley: What's their E-Bay Username?? I checked "Ellesmere" and there were only about 28 feedbacks, with no historical or present lots available for viewing to clue me in if this was the right E-Bay seller username.

Thanks in advance for the reply!

I called the company and spoke with Jim Fehr who told me that their E-Bay UserID is EllesmereCoins
