another stolen scan ?

link

how do we stop these ? there has to be a way for ebay to qualify these auctions, or check them if they get enough complaints.
i should also add that i havent gotten back a response from this seller for more scans or if he would use escrow.com so i guess its possible that its legit, but i doubt it.

  • I would never bid on a $2.00 item let alone a high priced card such as that from a ebayer who only has a feedback score of 25 / 90%

This auction isn't "possibly" not legit, it is definitely not legit. Stolen scan, poor feedback (probably a hijacked account anyway), pre-approved bidders, a description that sounds like a foreigner cleverly wrote it - what American baseball card collector would use a word like "ephemera" - LOL. There are so many red flags in this auction. Don't walk away from this seller, RUN away.

These arch-criminal scammers aren't just a disease anymore in our hobby - they are becoming a plague. I wish there was some way to stop these thieves from being able to list their fraudulent garbage on ebay. It would be nice to see these thieves going to prison the same way as other types of thieves go to prison. Unfortunately, a lot of them are doing this from foreign countries without any fear of criminal prosecution.

To be fair, this is a common term in collecting circles outside of trading cards, describing pieces which were originally intended to be discarded after use not not retained.

Edited to say: ... not that I'm doubting for a second that this auction is a sham. I just wanted to clarify.
  • sorry, my goof.

Anyone want to bet that the seller is Toni Toscana and the potential victim, er, customer, is directed to www.tonis-cards.com or www.tonis-sportscards.com or whatever similar www.something-cards or sports.com this scammer is using today?

Plus if you check out his feedback, he's not into cards. Everything is dealing with car parts or
steros. Which he doesn't seem to have a good feedback doing that business. Sure looks like
this person isn't the one selling this card.
  • i've been exchanging emails with an Antonio Maldini, of tonis-cards.com. i told him i would buy his Yzerman PSA 10 for $1500. he sent me an official looking invoice from a carrier service, then started firing off emails asking if i had sent his payment. i told him no, i was waiting for the card to arrive so i could inspect it. here was his response-

this not sound like our agreement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will contact the carrier to stop the package.

I will not be robbed again.

    Regards

i sent him a response email, i would LOVE to print it here. but if i did, it would get me banned from the boards, and probably arrested. is making death threats illegal if the person you're threatening is a Frenchman?

phreakydancin - I'll admit that I didn't know the meaning of the word "ephemera"and didn't look it up. I was hoping it was some disease that this scammer came down with. After seeing the definition, he didn't even use the word correctly because although baseball cards were often thrown out by Moms, etc., they weren't "intended" to be discarded like a calendar.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was Tony's auction or one of his henchmen. No way though that this Tony is from England or France. There are shipping services which can be contracted in almost any country to receive money or goods and then have it forwarded to another country. Chances are very good that he lives in Russia, some other former Soviet Union country, or Nigeria where a lot of these scammers operate from.
