2) I am giving much thought to starting to put together my first vintage set as well, I have decided on 1968 Topps Baseball. Mainly because I have a few of them already Bob Gibson, Ernie Banks, Pete Rose, and 24 other Rookie Cards from the set. I would like to know peoples opinions of this set and whether it's a good one for a beginner in Vintage Collecting?

Thanks - KG

I wouldn't have thought any 2003 cards would receive an 8. Yours must be pretty condition-sensitive. 9's and 10's are pretty much the norm in the registry for anything after the early 1980s. For just personal pleasure, 8 works just fine but usually isn't worth the fee unless it's a really expensive card.

Good luck on the Ryan, Mantle, Bench etc. if you're doing your '68 set in high grade.

lol...that's exactly why I used my 6 free submissions from purchasing the membership for those cards. I didn't think they would get 9 or 10 so I used the free submissions so I wouldn't have to pay the submission fees for them. But I at least wanted to get them slabbed

  • KG,

Any set where you have a head start is a good one. Especially with the cards you named. I'm guessin' you obviously like that set or you wouldn't already have so many cards. That's also important with vintage sets. Leads to less frustration down the line IMO. Others that are further along may have other insights for you. Good Luck!! image
