  • Why does the Mint show they are available ?

Because they are not sold out. And while you didn't make the distinction, I don't believe the 2004 silver proof sets are available to the public until later this year.

You may be thinking of the L&C Coin and Currency sets.

  • Silver proof sets are available, maybe it is the clad that are sold out, or the silver quarter set.
  • Just placed an order ?
Silvers are 37.95 and clads are 22.95 !

  • Must have been made available in the last couple weeks. In any event, you'll have a year or more to acquire both the clad and the silver proof sets.

I think Proof was thinking of the L&C C&C "faux matte/burnished/polished/special nickel" sets.

Also, I knew these were going up in price, but it still takes some adjusting to see common modern proof sets retailing for almost $40.00 each.

  • silver state quarters = sold out

but they are available now in the 11 piece silver set, so no big deal.
  • Dumb ?
why would ya buy just the silver .25 ?

Collector demand. Instead of busting up regular silver proof sets to get to the quarters, this year the Mint offered the silver proof quarters separately. Pretty good idea, actually.

Another HUGE reason they offer just the quarters are for the MILLIONS of collectors out there who do ONLY state quarter sets.... The Dansco album requires the proofs as well and many collectors do not want the other coins seeing as they don't collect them.

Remember the state quarters were the biggest thing with the mint since the 60's and they have made coin collecting the #1 hobby....

  • I just ordered 6 of the 2004 Silver Proof Sets and 4 SAE's last Thursday, the day the went on sale, and they arrived yesterday. The SAE's all look real good, but the the one set of annual coins that I opened was stunning! Quarters aside, it looked like all of the other coins were cameo, clear unblemished dark backgrounds against a silvery foreground. I'm still a real newbie though, so looking through the plastic may have distorted my view, but they are the best I've seen of the annual sets (since the state quarter stuff started).

  • Is there any difference in the package between the quarters-only and the full silver proof sets?
Is the color, writing, etc the same?

I am sure the box is different since the full set comes in a double-wide box.

By the way, here is where to buy them.

With any modern proof set, the vast majority of the coins will be 69DCAMS- the mint quality (not customer service!) is prettty high these days....

  • mint quality high ?
    under statement.
    just look at the POP's
    image
  • I did get my order confirmation today
silver and clad are in stock

  • You're right about the POP's, may want sell as sets in the future, a 69/70 no matter which denom should be pretty easy to come by.

I purchase the silver proofs each year. I like them. Nice way to get one of each state quarter. I'll get this years' as well. Only one I didn't get was the silver 1999 (only have the clads) and now its sooo expensive I don't know if I should buy it soon from a dealer/ebay or wait until (if) the price comes down. Suggestions???

  • used to have some anableps in my fishtank !

Gut feeling and only my .02 worth
i am gonna buy the 99 now from whoever has the best price,i dont think quality is the issue as it seems nearly every coin is a PR69DCAM.
prices will go up about 20-30 % from todays levels and then retreat to about 50 % of todays prices.
if you have 1 set, that wont be too painful.
i also think the govt. packaging will be worth more down the road than slabs.
tough to make a comparison but look at the GSA carson city morgans.
nobodys gonna make a killing except the dealers and people that paid mint pricing, however i look down the road to 2009 when the Lincoln turns a 100,you could see a 6 coin set including a Reagan Dollar and maybe a wheat reverse VDB Lincoln, that would bookend the state program very nicely and give you an 11 year run of some very nice coins !
    thats my rant !
