Looking for a good book on lincoln cent varieties

i just opened up a 1958-d roll and noticed that two of the coins have what seems to be a filled eight or something. is there a known variety for this date.

Supracoin - What you have would not be considered a variety. You most likely have a coin minted with a die that had the center of the 8 broken out, which is rather common. Varieties include repunched mintmarks, doubled dies, overdates, and repunched dates. These coins often carry premium value and can be quite a fun challenge to collect. If you are interested in the series, I would highly recommend a copy of my book to you. It will give you a lot of the basics on the series and shows hundreds of photos of what to look for and what to avoid.

I would second picking up Coppercoin's book. I just got it last week and it is well worth the money. I am also glad to see the book was spiral bound. I wish more books were spiral bound. It is so much easier when the page lays flat to compare a coin to a photo or even looking at a coin on the web.

Buy the book. Foolish not to. Cheap price for a lot of useful information not easy to come by, in a very compact, but by no means info lacking, format.

Charles' (coppercoins) book is definitely worth getting and you can order it through his website. The Cherrypickers' Guide is good also. Find a few good varieties and the book pays for itself.
