Have you ever not Bid?

Ok you are looking at an auction and find a coin you like, and when you look at the bid history you notice the high bidder is a person you know, board member, prior business party, and etc... Would you not bid against them? Is it fair to the seller? What if you didn't like person would you bid just to bump price up? Have you ever bid to help a seller out? What if you had been looking for the coin for a long time?

  • I've had situations where i see a coin i want to bid on, then notice the high bidder is a person who has bought
from me in the past. Then yes, i am usually reluctant to bid against them-- unless i really really want that coin
and the going bid isn't realistic.
  • P.S
I have ALSO bid to help a seller (ones i didnt know) out. It would usually be a case where a very worthy coin
had no bids with a super low opening, so i'll put in a bid to get things going not expecting to win. A couple of times my ridiculous bid DID win.

If I want the coin, all bets are off. High bidder wins.

A friend of mine and I both collect the same thing. We have a rule that says neither gets upset if we both bid on the same coin. We will both bid up to the amount that we are willing to spend on a particular coin. If I want it more than him, fine. If he wants it more than I, fine. No hard feelings between us. In fact, it becomes more of a friendly battle.

  • in terms of bidding to help a seller out, I beleive Ebay has a policy about aranging deals with freinds to get the price up higher.
